miles of smiles!

logan's cousin, miles, just arrived today from H-town with tita grace and tito jay. we are so excited to see them and to see how much miles has grown. soon, we expect the delivery of baby tee in tucson and then we are really going to have some kids to play with.

cradle swing

we borrowed this cradle swing from alistair (i.e. vanessa and mike johnson) and let me tell you, this kid has no chance at staying awake. this thing rocks, check it out...i wonder how long the batteries will last.

happy 1 month birthday!

i just finally got the baby to fall asleep. he has been up most of the night and following morning and martin and i are beginning to look a little rough around the edges. i feel sorry for the little guy, it appears that he has to go number 2 and is having a difficult time with it. hopefully soon, he will learn how to clear out his pipes more easily...

on a happier note, today is logan's first month birthday!!! martin and i stare at him and still can't believe that we made such a beautiful baby boy. for many of you, this picture may look familiar. isn't he just a doll!

thank you lola!

today we spent the day hanging out and shopping with lola. logan has spent most of the day preparing for a major blow out, after which, he stopped grunting and griping and was very amicable. he is also now equipped with enough diapers to get him through the summer. thanks lola!

how could you not just love this sleepy face??? this photo is from the morning when logan wakes up. he is a good sleeper, just like martin and is a little irritable until he fully wakes, which takes a few minutes. again, just like martin.

growing like a weed

so, it's true that you really shouldn't buy too many baby clothes because they grow out of them so fast. last night, we went to put some clothes on logan and realized that they were getting a little snug in the length. i think he may have outgrown his first newborn outfit - at least in the torso length. thankfully, he has some really smart family and friends and he has received a variation of different sizes, but how can this be so fast? are his tiny little newborn hands and feet a thing of the past? he certainly has begun to fill out and we can see it in his belly, arms, and legs. now we understand when people say, "they grow up so quickly..."

this photo is of logan during playtime. he has this mirror with squeaky, rattley, noisey toys attached to it and he is totally mesmerized by it. he is a great baby and hardly cries unless he needs something. when he is awake, alert, and ready to play is the best time to be with him.

calamba reunion picnic

yesterday, we brought logan to his first outdoor picnic. my parents have a reunion picnic with all the people from calamba, philippines that live here every year. he slept most of the time, but i think he had fun.

here is logan with lola andi. she and lolo matthew run the calamba association that hosts the picnic.

grunty grunterson

the baby has some serious grunting issues. we think it is gas, however, we are not completely sure. he is like a grunty old man and as much discomfort that it causes him, it really is cute and funny - except when it causes him to miss sleep and get fussy...

mastitis

i have a slight touch of mastitis. ugh. it may be the most unpleasant thing about breastfeeding i have ever experienced. feeding is painful, i am burning hot or freezing cold, and just feel incredibly terrible and sick. luckily, i think i may have caught it early enough so that there is no infection (my fingers are crossed). so, for now, we are on antibiotics and pumping/feeding our way through it. i think logan can sense it and has been especially nice to me. i can't say he has given martin the same courtesy...

a new navel!

he finally lost his belly button! it took 24 days and it finally fell off when i went to change him. :)

baby scale follow up

so, we put logan on the ups scale today and weighed him. he is a whopping 9 lbs and 11.5 oz! big boy!

inny or outy?

today was an exciting day. logan's belly button still has not fallen off yet, but it is barely hanging in there by a thread...great time for the battery on the camera to go out isn't it...

also, he peed during one of his diaper changings and i looked at his face, which was all wet AND he peed in his ear! good shot.

here is a photo of logan showing off his soccer kicking skills. he is very excited about the world cup now that it is getting down to the wire.

first spit up

this morning logan spit up on me for the first time. he seems to be over his feeding issue with feeding on the left side and he must have gotten a little over excited and ate too much. it wasn't much, but it was surprising nonetheless. oh, what a joy to get to look forward to more spit up...

baby scale
so there doesn't appear to be anywhere in chicago that isn't a doctor's office where you can go to weigh your baby. outside of going to the grocery store or the post office, it is impossible to find a scale that does ounces...yesterday, martin and i used our home scale and calculated that the little man weighs about 9-10 pounds. i think it is more like 11, but we will have to wait and see until the next doctor's appointment. i also measured him with my sewing measuring tape yesterday, and i think he is 22 inches!

gotta go watch the us play ghana now...

lolo

did i mention that my parents are in town visiting?
these guys are like two peas in a pod...

baby loves to go for a stroll

i searched high and low to find the perfect sunhat for logan. i think i bought about 5 of them in all. anyway, here is a picture of the first time i put it on his head. can you tell he really enjoys it?

senior poopy pants

how is it possible that a baby so little could make so much waste? impossible you say, i beg to differ. it seems like logan (1) always has gas and (2) instinctively knows to poop after you change his diaper. i also think he waits for us to take off a dirty diaper before he starts to pee all over. we may have to steam clean the carpet soon...it's a good thing you are cute boy...

for my birthday, logan surprised me with number 1 followed by number 2. oh, he loves me so...

here is an image of logan taking his first bottle. he does not have a problem eating, from boob or bottle. shall we just say he is a good eater...

Limbs

I've noticed that most photos feature the boy's face, but rest assured, there are arms and legs there, too - that's why I snapped this one.

happy father's day!

just wanted to say happy first father's day to martin. this also happens to be the one year anniversary of the birth of our first baby boy, walker, whom we lovingly remember and miss dearly. it was a long journey to get to this point and i am grateful to martin that we made it together. iluvmd. ar

slingeriffic!

it took us a while, but we finally figured out how to carry logan in the baby sling. he is a bit small for it, so we had to stuff it full of towels to get him situated correctly. the minute i started walking around, he passed out asleep. the sling feels like being pregnant again, so he must feel like he is in the womb again too.

lola and lolo are here

there is some non-stop baby love action going on over here is the hizzie. my mom and dad are here to visit the baby.

here is a pic of logan with his lola. i swear he grew overnight and is so big now. the shadow from the camera makes him look like he has a super fro, nice...

aunt saher

today, logan spent the afternoon with tita saher. i think he recognizes her from her many visits to us in the hospital. she is as crazy about him as he is about her. these two are a pair!

* this must be logan's favorite photo pose...

stretch

logan likes to give a big two armed stretch every time he wakes up from a nap or finished eating. it is funny, especially when he does things that adults would normally do.

every day, he seems to get bigger and stronger. during tummy time, he can lift his head and hold it up for a few seconds. he can also move his head from laying on one side to the other. it is amazing that he is only 2 weeks old and he can already do all this. i don't want him to get big so fast! he already sleeps more at night and less during the day. it's going by so quickly!

love those jowels

this kid is cuter than any old shiloh jolie pitt...cheeky too!
i was trying for a shot of him in his arsenal onesie, but i can only do so much with one hand...move over thiery henry!

grandparents!

logan's grandparents came all the way from waxahachie, texas to come and visit.

introducing grammy jan and grandpa bill

while they were here, martin and i had our first babysitter outing. we went to the store and it felt incredibly weird, like we had forgotten something. if it wasn't his grandparents taking care of him, i would have totally freaked out, but we made it and nothing happened to us or him!

world cup baby

the world cup has started...and this baby is going to watch every game.

this photo is a better image of logan casting spells. hilarious.

bath time

logan hates baths but he loves to get his hair washed. he cries and cries when we wash all the dried milk and shmutz off the lower half of his body, but when it comes to getting his head scrubbed, he totally calms down and stops crying. there is nothing better in this world than the smell of a clean baby...

sitting on a log

i couldn't resist posting this picture.

we routinely burp logan after he is done eating. we call it sitting on a log. the best part about sitting on a log is the face that he inevitably makes. i think it is because he is woken up from his post feeding drunk slumber. either way, it may be the cutest pathetic face i have ever seen. i love it!

"casting spells"

it's so crazy how fast babies change. it has been just barely over a week and i feel like logan has changed dramatically. he is awake more and sleeps longer. his head has gone from conehead (from the delivery) to rounded. he stares a lot more and i am convinced i have seen him smile a few times too. he likes to poke himself in the face a lot with his hands and do what we like to call casting spells. oh, and whoever said that breastfed babies do not have stinky poos or farts are VERY wrong. ha!

poop happens

this is tiffany. she got logan this cute shirt. last week, when tiffany came to visit logan, he pooped on her. this week, he peed on her. ironic isn't it???

best dad ever

i know it's not father's day yet, but i just wanted to give martin a shout out. he is the best dad ever! thanks martin, i love you.

7 days old! big day

today we had an exciting day of firsts. after a few days of parenting, martin and i are finally beginning to catch on. here are some photos as well as some commentary of the day.

baby faux hawk

chillaxing...

look at those beautiful lips!

first dinner out

every evening, we have been packing up the stroller and going on walks in the neighborood. the boulevards near our house are crowded with folks jogging, walking their dogs, and going for strolls. tonight, we decided to walk over to one of many cool restaurants in the hood - and i have been dying for name sake sushi pieces since i got pregnant.

the dinner went really well and reassured us that there is life outside the safe confines of our home and that we can go places with the baby and we won't break him. he slept through most of the walk and all of dinner and pitched zero cries, things are looking up for us!

first doctor's visit

we had our first appointment with pur pediatrician today. logan weighed in at 8 lbs 1 oz and is gaining back his birthweight on track. our doc is super cool and we really like him a lot, which is no surprise since he is also our ob's doc and our friend's doc and her ob's doc too!

poopie

so, for the first few days since we got home, the baby had not gone #2 and we were beginning to get a little worried. were we feeding him enough? was he sick? is everything all right? as luck would have it, the stoppage was caused by the fact that my milk had not fully come in yet. now that it has, he seems to poop non-stop. needless to say, we are not worried about his feeding anymore and we are thankful to everyone who has given us, rather him, clothing. he changes outfits more than madonna on tour...

also, these photos are from when his eyes are open and he is not sleeping or eating - which is about a 5 minute window of time each day...he's got a big head and no neck!

none more black

logan looks just like martin in this outfit...

feeding baby d

so, logan was having a hard time feeding on the left side when my milk came in and just stopped taking the left side all together. i had to pump the milk out and we were told to feed it to him using a syringe.

fortunately, the lactation consultant came today and we were able to get him properly latched on and he is back on track. this little guy is already eating 2.5 oz milk per feeding and gaining weight again.

more photos...

every day he seems to look a little different and more like a little man and less like a little old alien man. i think his characteristics look more like martin each day too. here are some more photogs for your viewing pleasure.

we gave him his first bath at home last night and his hair is all fuzzy. so cute!

he does a lot of sleeping...

We're Home

Wow.
So, everyone who gives you the crack about not sleeping... They're not kidding.
I am also learning to type with one hand, cuz I got baby in the other.
Excuse the brevity.
We're all doing well.
More later.
