Happy Birthday Grandad!
Logan wanted to send a special message to his grandfather today on his birthday.
He didn't have to learn TOO much of the alphabet to be able to spell this out.

don't throw the baby out with the bathwater
especially when the baby is as cute as this one!
logan is two months old and getting bigger and bigger each day. look at the tummy on him! he loves to take baths in the tub, which is good since he hated the sponge baths. now that we know he likes it, we have been bathing him more regularly - so he doesn't smell like vitamins, spit up, or poop.

Rock It
Logan will be attending the Pitchfork Music Festival this weekend. It's a big outdoor concert in Union Park, pretty much smack dab in the middle of the city. I doubt it will get too loud, but if it does, Logan wants everyone to know that he's prepared. Earplug Superstore. I love it.
These will also come in handy for his trips to the shooting range, or if I need him to cut something up on the table saw...

who's the best?....chicago fire!
here we are once again at a chicago fire game with our friends sandra and patrick (that's patrick in the photo). it rained all evening, so we were standing in the back where it was dry. logan is cheering on his favorite mls team from the bjorn. actually, i think he was busy staring at sandra all evening. i think he recognizes her voice because she was a regular at the hospital before he was born.

Just An Aside
Back to the Mat
So, the boy has this playmat. You've seen it.
He uses it when he's not hanging out in a basket of laundry.
The thing is, the playmat has a motion-activated-star that lights up and plays music. Logan's favorite thing on the playmat is the ladybug. Maybe it's his favorite becuase it's within his reach... Well as of today he can bat the ladybug hard enough to make the star light up and play music. Got all that?
Wow.
That's what's ghappening on this rainy Thursday.

Introducing Ella Parker Tee!
Logan would like you to meet his new cousin, Ella Parker Tee! She is the beautiful addition to the family, born today at 6lbs 9oz, 19 in long.
These two are exactly 7 weeks apart, so there is no telling what kind of trouble they are going to get into together - I am sure led by their fearless leader, older cousin Miles. We are so excited that our family is growing!
Click on the title to see more pictures and catch up on their blog.

Illinois History
So the heatwave seems to have subsided... I took Logan for a stroll over to the bank. In the background in this picture, above the stroller, you can see the monument that marks Logan Square, named after John Logan.
This is John Logan:
John Logan was an American soldier and political leader. He served in the Mexican War and was a general in the Union Army in the American Civil War. He served the state of Illinois as a Senator and was an unsuccessful candidate for vice President of the United States.
This is Logan Davis:
He's a little baby who lives in Chicago. I may lack objectivity, but I think he's a lot cuter than John Logan.
...That's today in Illinois history.

hot in, so hot in here...
the weather this week is supposed to be in the 90s for most of the week, which is pretty hot by chicago standards. it was 97 today when we went out to the meanies soccer game. is it bad to only dress him in a tank top and no pants??? we are hot!
we have also introduced logan to the vibrating rocker chair, which he took a nap in today. look how big he has gotten! thanks for making him some pillows lola!
ps. logan finally pooped on his own today (no qtip needed)! yay!

blowout
martin used the old q-tip anal stimulation trick recommended by the pediatrician...an hour later, he had a major blowout while he was having dinner. it is probably the worst smelling poop we have EVER smelled. his room still reeks...
6 weeks old!
wow, the days just fly by. logan is a whopping 6 weeks old today. i found my journal from the pregnancy last night and read the last entry, it was on the night we went into early labor - the second time. i thought i was having stomach pains that i could sleep off, but it turns out they were really contractions...crazy, how long ago it feels when it was only march!
here is a picture from this morning. logan is very vocal and likes to chat it up in the mornings. one of my new favorite things to do is to sit him up to see how long he can sit up like a grown up. martin and i both think he is going to be a talker.
day 4 - no poop, but probably the worst smelling farts ever, and they sound like poops, so we are always checking the diaper!

rainy tuesday
logan and i spent the day inside, playing and watching tv. it rained most of the day. he still hasn't pooped yet, but we talked to the doctor this morning and he said not to worry since he is a breastfed baby. he also mentioned that whenever he finally does make it happen, it will be enough to compensate for all the missed days. i believe we are on day 3 already. uh oh!

where in the world is sir poopsalot?
on wednesday, the pediatrician mentioned that logan might undergo some changes where he doesn't poop as frequently as he used to. he then proceeded to poop on the doctor (he must have known we were talking about him). we really didn't think anything of it, but he hasn't gone poop in a while. he had a horrible night of grunting and crying. i hope this isn't the start of colic...

cuteness
we put shoes on logan yesterday. could he be any cuter? notice he is also wearing a shirt for a 3 month old. thanks aunt kiegan! this is one of my favorite poses - the after eating/napping/anytime stretch. he is very vocal, so you can just imagine this stretch accompanied by a long grunty noise...
the world cup final is today - he will be busy watching :)

play mat
heartbreaking tears
yesterday, little logan got mad and started crying and real tears started to appear. it literally broke my heart. he didn't have any running down his cheeks or anything, but his eyes were all watery and wet. i am in for it once they actually start streaming...ugh! i would have taken a picture of it, but it was too painful. i am such a sucker. here is a cuter picture instead. look at that pucker.

doctor's visit today
we had our 1 month appointment at the pediatrician today. logan is 11 lbs 6 oz! he is also 23 inches long and his head circumference is 15 3/4 inches. this puts him in the 75% for weight and head, and 90% in length. i think that there is no doubt that he is going to be a big boy. aside from his measurements, he is hitting all his major milestones and appears to be a thriving little guy, which pleases us.
5 weeks old!
grumpus has already started growing out of his clothes! i can't believe it. he is only 5 weeks old and he is already moving into the 3-6 mos clothing size. i was looking at him this morning and noticed how big he is getting, literally overnight. soon, he's going to get too big for me to carry. i must start lifting weights immediately...look how long he has gotten!

happy 4th of july
today, we went on our first soccer outing. we went to a chicago fire game. we fed logan in the car before we went in to avoid any major hungry meltdowns, and then we took turns carrying him in the sling. we tried to leave before the fireworks after the game, but got caught in the parking lot, right next to where they were being set off. chicago is a crazy city on the 4th of july. driving home, you can see fireworks going off everywhere around you. it is very surreal. i am not sure baby logan was able to appreciate them this year, at least, not with his eyes closed...
